Work Experience

Prague, September 2019 - March 2020

  • I participated in the analysis and refactoring of restaurant and fast food point of sale software from NCR (in C++ for Windows) to a modern, multi-platform distributed system.
  • I researched and documented the existing system functionality, implemented incremental improvements to allow new clients more operations (typically separating the business logic from the GUI), and added new features such as secure communication using gRPC.
  • I also worked on code review, including formulating design standards for coding.

Prague, March 2019 - April 2019

  • I designed and implemented a serverless component in Python to calculate electric bills from metered data.

Prague, April 2018 - June 2019

  • I was the main administrator of the Archaeological Mapping of the Czech Republic - a distributed system for the collection, archiving and analysis of all professional archaeological research activities and results on the territory of the Czech Republic.
  • The core of the system is a PostgreSQL database, which is accessible from multiple desktop and web applications in PHP, Java and JavaScript (with Angular).
  • I fixed bugs, added new features and implemented a new API for publishing the database via the OAI-PMH protocol.
  • I also worked on other projects, including C language weather satellite software (for Airbus) and a feasibility study using Google Cloud.

Brno and Prague, October 2017 - December 2017

  • I participated in the design and implementation of a real-time data processing system.
  • In addition to the actual programming (in C++), I also set up the replication of the MariaDB database and implemented the Python matplotlib library for data visualization.

Prague, December 2016 - May 2017

  • I provided import of live betting information
  • To ensure maximum coverage of sporting events, Fortuna subscribes to a real live betting information feed, mainly from Bwin.
  • I was responsible for the programs to process the incoming data (in Python) and import it into the main betting system database (in PostgreSQL). I solved problems with this functionality (e.g. missing data, overloads) and also updated it, for example by engineering and documenting the new Betradar channel, which included new betting options.

Prague, March 2016 - November 2016

  • I created and secured web applications . The client specializes in utility support systems, mainly highway tolls, but also gas and electricity distribution, using a custom .NET framework tailored for each customer.
  • I worked on the frontend web parts in JavaScript (with jQuery) and ASP.NET MVC (with Telerik controls), and also maintained some Stimulsoft Reports templates.

Prague, January 2016 - February 2016

  • I implemented and operated a scraper for land registry data.
  • Data from the Czech agricultural land cadastre (ownership, mortgages, etc.) is publicly available, but only through interactive web pages with a large share of JavaScript.
  • I have designed and implemented Python scripts (optionally using Selenium) to download and parse these pages in order to extract relational data from them.

Frankfurt, Germany, August 2015 - December 2015

  • I maintained parts of the stock trading framework for Bloomberg.
  • The distributed system, acquired from a former independent software vendor, was designed to support trading on many exchanges with separate programs (in C++, using a common framework for the data model, socket communication and other shared functionality) for specific exchange platforms.
  • I have fixed bugs and added new functionality for several of them, for the Deutsche Boerse, LSE and NASDAQ platforms
